Doomsday Clock: The Final Evisceration

January 1, 2020 // 2 Comments

So I really didn’t want to do this. But somebody told me what happens in Doomsday Clock #12, and it pissed me off so much that I had to go back and finish reading the damn thing. Just so I could hate it intelligently. And, holy crap. HOLY CRAP. It’s even worse than I expected. But before the knives come back out, let’s make this all official and such… Doomsday Clock 9-12 by Geoff Johns and Gary Frank  I covered the first eight issues of this travesty in earlier columns, [...]

And Out Come the Knives: Doomsday Clock, Part Two

January 1, 2019 // 4 Comments

So a couple of weeks ago, we took a look at Geoff Johns’ Doomsday Clock, his Doctor-Manhattan-Meets-Superman comic, and talked about how it’s a pretty good example of the Big Corporate Spandex Crossover™. Something that discusses my problems with the book in-depth, without all the snark and (a word we’ll come back to later) cynicism. So let’s give that a shot… DC Rebirth 1 by Geoff Johns, Gary Frank, Ethan Van Sciver, [...]

The Manhattan Transfer, and Other Funnybook News

May 26, 2016 // 1 Comment

So the funnybook world has been abuzz the last few days with shocking revelations and their accompanying outrage (because nothing ever happens in comics without somebody getting their panties in a bunch about it). The biggest story, I guess, is Geoff Johns’ declaration that Dr. Manhattan is responsible for all the dirty, bad, awful, unhappy things that have happened to the DC Comics stable of characters since the “New 52” relaunch of a few years ago. That’s right. Dr. Manhattan. [...]

Dork Awards: The 25 Greatest Super Heroes of All Time (Part Two)

June 22, 2013 // 2 Comments

After a day of wrestling with WordPress, our list of the 25 Greatest Spandex Characters of All Time continues! Please forgive any layout problems or typos. It’s been a difficult posting. Part One can be found here, or you can jump right in below. Just remember: one dork’s opinion, nobody will ever agree with every pick, etc etc… 14. The Flash A character whose enduring appeal, I think, is the thrill of speed, the freedom represented by the amazing power of Runs Fast. [...]
