As longtime visitors to the Dork Forty may know, we think rather highly of Mr. Alan Moore, and think rather less than highly of his treatment at the hands of DC Comics. Our scorn extends the movies made, against his wishes, out of Watchmen and V for Vendetta (though the latter of those very nearly gets it right). It also includes the movies made with his consent, but not his involvement, out of books like League of Extraordinary Gentlemen (which is particularly bad) and From Hell (which isn’t awful, but resembles its source material in little more than name).
But now… hey! Alan Moore’s making a movie himself! Or, rather, he’s writing an original screenplay, and it’s being made by people who seem to have some understanding and respect for his ideas. Reportedly the first of two or three film projects (though I’m admittedly a little fuzzy on the details), it’s a short film called Jimmy’s End, due out later this month.
